What is Rail Creeper

Rail creeping, also known as track creeping, refers to the longitudinal movement of rails along the track caused by factors such as train impact, braking, and temperature variations. This phenomenon manifests as rails shifting along sleepers or longitudinal displacement of the ballast bed, potentially leading to track defects including sleeper misalignment, ballast loosening, and rail joint misalignment. The primary causes are rail deflection and longitudinal horizontal thrust forces, where dynamic loads induce wave-like rail deformation resulting in longitudinal displacement.

The use of rail anchors effectively increases the track's resistance to longitudinal movement, enhancing the clamping force of intermediate fasteners and the grip strength of joint splices.
