Railroad spikes, also known as cut spikes, are used to fasten rails and base plates to sleepers. They are also used in rail fastening systems along with rail fastenings such as spring clips and clamps. Railroad spikes can be divided into two types: dog spikes and screw spikes. Threaded spikes are more secure than regular spikes.
