Railway spikes need to maintain stable performance under various complex climatic conditions. In high temperature environments, metal spikes will undergo certain dimensional changes due to thermal expansion. To adapt to this situation, the design of the spikes will take into account the thermal expansion coefficient of the material to ensure that the connection with the sleeper will not be affected by excessive expansion at high temperatures. At the same time, high temperatures may also cause the adhesive material around the spikes to soften, but high-quality spikes will use high-temperature resistant adhesive materials or special fixing methods to ensure their stability.
In low temperature environments, spikes may face the risk of material brittleness. Therefore, the material of the spikes will be specially treated to improve its low-temperature toughness and prevent it from breaking in cold weather. In addition, in humid or rainy areas, spikes are vulnerable to the threat of rust. For this reason, spikes are usually treated with anti-corrosion, such as coating with anti-rust paint or using stainless steel, to extend their service life and ensure that the rails can be reliably fixed under different climatic conditions.
