Guidance and load bearing：The rails constrain the train wheels to ensure that the vehicle travels along the predetermined path.
Force transmission：Distribute the dynamic load of the wheel and rail (vertical/lateral/longitudinal) to the sleepers, ballast bed and roadbed.
Vibration reduction and noise reduction：Use elastic fasteners, ballast layers, etc. to buffer vibration energy (reduce 10-15dB noise).
Electrical circuit (electrified railway)：The rails also serve as part of the track circuit for signal transmission.
