Railway Rail Fish Plate

Railway Rail Fish Plate

A railway fishplate (also called a joint bar or rail splice bar) is a metal or composite component used to connect the ends of two rails in a track. It is bolted to both sides of the rail web to form a secure mechanical joint, ensuring alignment and load transfer while allowing for thermal expansion and contraction of the rails.

Description
Technical Parameters

Railway fishplates are used as fasteners to connect rails to rails

Key Features

Aspect Description
Design Symmetric or asymmetric plate structure with 4–6 bolt holes, contoured to fit the rail web.
Installation Paired on both sides of the rail joint, secured with high-strength bolts.
Primary Functions 1. Mechanically joins rail ends; 2. Distributes wheel load stresses; 3. Controls rail gap expansion; 4. Provides electrical insulation (if insulated type).
Failure Modes Bolt loosening, cracks, wear, or insulation degradation (for insulated fishplates).
