Description
Railway rails, also known as rails or tracks, are the main part of the railway. Its function is to provide a continuous, smooth, low-resistance rolling surface for the train to move forward. Most modern railways use continuously welded rails (CWR) to reduce the friction of the train and make it go faster. When the train passes, the rails are under great pressure. The pressure is transferred to the sleepers, ballast, and the roadbed below. Railway fasteners fix the rails in place to ensure safe travel. Railway rails are used in industrial fields such as high-speed tracks, light transportation, heavy tracks, trams, subways, factories, mine tracks, and forest transportation tracks. In electrified railways or self-closed sections, rails can also be used as track circuits.
Countries around the world have rail manufacturing standards, and the classification methods are also different. In my country, railway rails are divided into light rails, heavy rails, and crane rails according to the kilograms of weight per meter.
