This type of rail undergoes localized heat treatment on the rail head, significantly increasing surface hardness while maintaining sufficient toughness inside, thus balancing wear resistance and crack resistance.
Heat-treated rails can significantly extend service life, reduce the frequency of track bed maintenance, and improve the economic efficiency of railway lines. For example, on high-speed rail lines, rails must withstand repeated loads from frequent high-speed train operations. Without strengthening treatment, problems such as corrugation and cracks are prone to occur. The rail head quenching process has effectively solved this technical challenge and is now widely used in China's high-speed rail network, gradually extending to conventional railways. The application of heat-treated rails has become an effective means to enhance the performance of track systems.
