Rail Sleepers

Rail Sleepers

Sleepers, also known as railroad sleepers or road sleepers, are a component of railway tracks. They are directly attached to the bottom of the rails and stabilize the rails, preventing them from shifting and causing danger when passing trains. They also distribute the pressure generated by passing trains evenly across the ballast, ensuring more stable train travel.

Composite Sleeper Types Comparison

Type Material Composition Advantages Limitations
GFRP Glass fiber + epoxy resin Highest strength, fatigue-resistant Higher cost
Recycled Plastic HDPE/PP + mineral fillers 100% recyclable, chemical-proof Lower load capacity
Hybrid (WPC) Wood fibers + thermoplastics Natural appearance, easier machining Moisture absorption risk

Rail Sleepers

Installation Workflow

Subgrade Preparation:

Compact ballast to 95% Proctor density

Sleeper Placement:

Use nylon slings (avoid steel chains)

Align within ±2mm tolerance

Fastening:

Install clips/spikes at 50% torque initially

Final torque after 24h (compensation for settling)
