In the railway industry, fishplates can be divided into many types according to rail specifications, hole settings, materials and usage scenarios. Common classification methods include: 4-hole and 6-hole by number of holes; Chinese standard, UIC standard, AREMA standard, etc. by standard; ductile iron, Q235 rolling, and forging by material.

Different types of fishplates are suitable for different types of rails. Taking the UIC standard as an example, UIC60 rails need to be equipped with UIC60 fishplates, while 50kg rails should use fishplates with corresponding hole spacing and profiles to ensure installation matching and uniform force. In addition, special lines such as heavy-load railways, curved sections or bridge sections usually require reinforced fishplates to improve tensile strength and impact resistance.

The manufacture and inspection of fishplates must also strictly follow the standards. The hole spacing, thickness, length and bolt hole position accuracy must be strictly controlled to ensure that they fit tightly with the rails after installation without loosening or offset. In modern manufacturing, heat treatment processes are also commonly used to improve the strength and durability of fishplates, and surface treatments such as oiling, anti-rust coating or hot-dip galvanizing are used to enhance their corrosion resistance to meet the needs of complex and changing outdoor use environments.
