Railway fishplate function
The main purpose of railway fishplate is to secure the steel rail to the rail sleeper or elastic foundation. In addition to supporting a certain amount of pressure, it must withstand vertical, lateral, and longitudinal forces from the steel rail. To prevent excessive deformation caused by three-dimensional forces, which can result in large rail gaps, reduced passenger comfort, and potential safety concerns, commonly used fasteners include elastic clamps of the spring plate or spring strip type. Compared to rail tie plates, fishplates show superior characteristics in terms of rail deformation, resistance to loosening, and fatigue resistance.
