What are rail clips made of?
Rail clips, especially elastic ones, are primarily made from high-quality spring steel, such as Silico Manganese steel (e.g., 60Si2MnA, 55Si7, 60Si2CrA) or other specialized spring steel grades, chosen for their elasticity, strength, and fatigue resistance, forged and heat-treated for optimal performance in securing railway tracks.
Manufacturing Process:
- Heating: The spring steel bar is heated to high temperatures (around 950-1000°C).
- Hot Forging: It's then hot-pressed into the desired clip shape using powerful presses and molds.
- Quenching & Annealing: The forged clips are hardened by quenching (cooling rapidly) and then tempered (annealed) to achieve the required elasticity and strength.
