Railway sleepers

Railway sleepers, also called railway ties or track sleepers. Railway sleepers play a crucial role in stabilizing the track position, preventing shifts, and ensuring smoother travel by distributing pressure evenly onto the ballast.

We are a professional and reliable railway sleepers manufacturer, producing various types including wooden sleepers, concrete sleepers, and composite railway sleepers. We also offer customization according to customer requirements. Therefore, we can manufacture all types of railway sleepers that you need, Please feel free to contact us.

what is a wood sleeper

Wood Sleeper

Wood sleepers have been the main type of railway sleepers since the beginning of railways. Wood sleepers that GNEE RAILWAY rail offered have advantages of good elasticity, easy processing, and convenient use. However, due to material limitations, wood sleepers lack uniformity in elasticity, strength, and durability, leading to increased dynamic forces between wheels and rails and requiring a large amount of high-quality wood.

Moreover, wood sleepers have a short lifespan due to their susceptibility to decay from insects and fungi. Even with anti-decay treatment, their rated lifespan is usually between 13 to 19 years. However, increased freight flow, speed, and load capacity can shorten this lifespan to 8 to 10 years.

what is a concrete sleeper

Concrete Sleeper

Concrete sleepers that GNEE RAILWAY rail supplied have advantages such as resistance to decay, easy availability, long lifespan, high stability, and low maintenance requirements. However, as the focus on railway infrastructure safety and comfort increases, the drawbacks of concrete sleepers are becoming more apparent: they are heavy, brittle, prone to cracking, have high hardness, poor elasticity, and damping effects, making them unable to meet the requirements of high-speed railway development.

Currently, concrete sleepers are mainly used in high-speed rail in China due to their economic benefits. However, they suffer from material drawbacks such as poor energy absorption, susceptibility to fracture, inconvenient construction, and high maintenance costs.

what is a composite sleeper

composite sleeper

Through a unique formulation, composite sleepers have mechanical properties superior to wood sleepers or even surpassing concrete sleepers. For example, the tensile strength of polyethylene is 21-24 MPa, while concrete is only 1.1 MPa. Polyethylene's shear strength can reach 60 MPa, far exceeding concrete's 11 MPa. Although concrete has a higher modulus of elasticity, it lacks the toughness of polyethylene. Additionally, polyethylene has an elastic modulus of 552-758 MPa, a softening temperature of 120°C, a brittle temperature of -70°C, a Poisson's ratio of 0.45, and a fracture elongation of ≥350%.

Therefore, composite sleepers are widely used in various application such as railway tracks, high-speed railways, warehouse storage, military material depots, logistics hubs, agriculture, landscaping, and heavy machinery support.
