Fasteners Railroad Clip Fast Clips

Fasteners Railroad Clip Fast Clips

Railway Clip is used to fasten the rails to the underlying base plate together with the concrete sleeper. A variety of different types of heavy-duty clips are used to fasten the rails to the underlying baseplate or Sleeper, one common being the E Clip, which is shaped like a stubby paperclip. Another one is the SKL Tension Clamp, which is also the most widely used type all over the world. Others like KPO Clamp and Nabla Clip, also used in different situations.

Rail Fast CLIP Fastening System

Railway Fasteners Carbon Fast Clip

The Railway Fast Clip (commonly referring to the Pandrol Fastclip system) is a torsion-spring elastic fastening engineered to secure rails to sleepers through a threadless, self-tensioning mechanism that eliminates threaded components and torque specifications. Manufactured from precision-rolled spring steel alloys including 38Si7 and 60Si2CrA, these clips utilize a pre-formed "U" shape that transforms into a tensioned clamping position when driven home, creating a calibrated toe load of 8–12 kN through elastic deformation rather than mechanical tightening.

Installation & Maintenance Perspective:

  • Torsional Spring Principle: Unlike bending-dominant E-clips, Fast Clips operate primarily through torsion-the legs twist along their length when driven home, storing energy in torsional deformation that generates consistent clamping force.
  • Energy Density Optimization: The torsion design achieves higher energy storage per unit mass compared to bending designs, enabling lighter clips with equivalent clamping performance.
  • Hysteresis Damping: Under cyclic loading, the torsional action produces controlled internal friction (hysteresis) that dissipates vibrational energy as heat, reducing dynamic forces transmitted to sleepers.

Maintenance & Operational Perspective

  • Pre-Assembled Sleeper Delivery: Sleepers arrive at site with shoulders cast-in and clips pre-installed in parked position, reducing site inventory requirements and eliminating component matching at installation.
  • Standardized Component Rationalization: One clip size serves multiple rail sections across an entire network, reducing spare parts SKUs and simplifying procurement forecasting.
  • Compact Packaging Density: Clips are packed in standardized quantities (typically 500–1,000 per pallet) with barcoded labeling enabling digital inventory tracking and automated reordering.
