Dog Spikes Of Railway

Dog-head spikes (also called hook-head spikes) are used to fix rails to wooden sleepers. They are installed by hammering and rely on friction and L-shaped hooks to prevent them from falling off. They have a simple structure and low cost, but their pull-out resistance is weak (about 15-20kN), making them suitable for low-speed lines.
