• Load Bearing

The main function of railway sleepers is to bear the pressure. During train operation, both vertical and horizontal forces are transferred to the rails, and the sleepers absorb these forces, then pass them elastically to the ballast bed.    

• Track Stability

The second function of railway sleepers is to maintain track geometry, especially the gauge and alignment. Once the sleepers are in place, the rails' position is fixed. Sleepers also need to be strong, elastic, durable, and able to secure the rails while resisting movement.
