Which Rail Fastenings are commonly used with Rail Clips to form a complete fastening system?

Rail clip, also called elastic rail clip, it is used to fasten the rail tracks with railroad spike, rail pad, track bolt, rail joint bar together. It is also usually used as a part of rail fastening system. There are huge demand of rail clips on the railway line, about 7000pcs per kilometer, which is directly related to rail safety.

rail fastening

Common rail fastenings used with rail clips include bolts (such as T-bolts), screw spikes, and anchor bolts, along with other necessary components like nuts, washers, base plates, and rail pads. These parts work together to create a complete system that securely holds the rail to the sleeper.

Common components of a rail fastening system

  • Bolts: T-bolts are often used with concrete sleepers and baseplates, where they provide the clamping force by tightening a nut.

  • Screw Spikes: These steel spikes with threads are screwed into wooden or concrete sleepers to provide a strong grip.

  • Anchor Bolts: These are used in high-load applications to connect the track to the foundation, often used with crane rails and nuts.

  • Nuts and Washers: These are essential for creating the final clamp. Spring and flat washers are placed between the nut and the component being fastened to provide tension and a secure connection.

  • Base Plates: These steel or cast iron plates are placed between the rail and the sleeper, providing a surface for the clips and other components.
  • Rail Pads: These are placed between the rail and the baseplate to provide insulation, reduce vibration, and prevent wear.

Elastic rail clip function

Like other rail fasteners, the main function of rail clip is fastening railway sleeper and steel rail together. The rail clip is considered as one of the best ways to ensure that rails do not move, bend, warp, or rot. There are data shows that each elastic rail clip can bear about two tons of force upon a railway track.

Rail clip types

For different applications and national standards, elastic rail clips can be classified into various types, including rail e- clip, SKL rail clips, Nabla rail clip, Deenik clip, crane rail clip, Russia rail clip as well as other standard rail clips.
