What is the difference between crane beams and tracks?

1. Overview of crane beams and tracks

Crane beams and tracks are common components in lifting machinery. Crane beams, also known as sling beams, are transverse components used to hang, lift and move goods. Tracks are a load-bearing structure fixed on the suspended object and are the most fixed structural components in lifting machinery.

2. The difference between crane beams and tracks

(1). Functional difference

Crane beams are lifting devices in lifting machinery. Their main function is to fix heavy objects on the hooks, thereby realizing functions such as lifting, handling, loading and unloading goods. Tracks are load-bearing structural components fixed on the hanging objects. Their main function is to provide a stable moving track for crane beams. Rails are the main components of railway tracks. Its function is to guide the wheels of locomotives and vehicles forward, bear the huge pressure of the wheels, and transmit it to the sleepers. Rails must provide wheels with a continuous, smooth and least resistant rolling surface. In electrified railways or automatic block sections, rails can also be used as track circuits.

(2). Structural differences

Crane beams are usually made of steel structures, and their main components include hooks, crossbeams, racks, connectors, etc. These components directly determine the load-bearing capacity and service life of crane beams. Tracks are usually welded from steel plates, and their straight shape can provide an effective driving track for crane beams. The cross-sectional shape of the rails adopts an I-shaped cross-section with the best bending resistance, consisting of three parts: rail head, rail waist and rail bottom. In order to enable the rails to better withstand forces from all sides and ensure the necessary strength conditions, the rails should be of sufficient height, their heads and bottoms should have sufficient area and height, and the waist and bottom should not be too thin.
