Railroad spikes are essential railway fasteners, usually made of iron or steel such as Q235, 45#, 40Cr, 35CrMoA, Q345B, Q345D and 20MnTiB etc. Their main role is to secure rails and keep them in gauge, often used with tie plates in rail fastening systems.
Common types include dog spikes, screw spikes, and spring spikes, selected according to track weight and application. Dog spikes were once hammered into wooden sleepers by hand, but now machines are widely used. Screw spikes, though costlier, provide nearly twice the holding power and can be combined with spring washers for greater stability.

Road spikes
Road spikes, also known as road studs, are traffic safety devices installed along road centerlines or double yellow lines to guide vehicles through retro-reflective performance. Standard sizes are about 100mm × 100mm × 20mm, and they can be made of aluminum, plastic, ceramic, or glass beads. Road spikes are further divided into common, solar, tunnel, and wireless types, with single or double reflective surfaces.
Although they share the same name, railroad spikes and road spikes serve completely different functions-one ensures railway track stability, the other ensures roadway safety.
