The Railway Screw Spike (also known as tire-fond in French) is a threaded steel fastener designed to secure rails to wooden sleepers or concrete sleepers with plastic dowels, featuring a helical thread that provides superior pull-out resistance compared to non-threaded alternatives . Manufactured from carbon steel grades including Q235, 35#, 45#, 40Mn2, and 20MnSi, with property classes ranging from 4.6 to 8.8, these spikes achieve tensile strength of 400–800 MPa depending on specification .
