Steel Rail Screw Spike

Steel Rail Screw Spike

The screw spike is also known as rail screw. As one kind of Rail spike, it is a metal screw for fixing rail fasteners. Screw spike is usually made of NO.3 steel. Because its nail rod surface has thread, so it is called screw spike. The pull-out resistance is 0.5 ~ 1.0 times larger than that of common rail spike, but the thrust resistance is 50% less. Due to disassembly and assembly inconvenience, it is difficult to adjust the rail gauge, which is generally used on the railway turnout. For meeting various needs of clients, we can offer coach screws, stud screw, railway sleeper screws and other coustom screw spike in railway.

Product Overview & Features of Railway Screw Spikes

Item Description
Product Name Railway Screw Spike
Alternative Names Screw Stud, Concrete Sleeper Screw
Application Fastening rails to concrete sleepers (ties) in ballasted track systems. Commonly used with an elastic rail clip (e.g., SKL, Nabla).
Core Function To be pre-embedded or drilled into the concrete sleeper, providing a strong, threaded anchor point for the fastening assembly.
Material High-Quality Carbon Steel (e.g., Q235, 45#) or Alloy Steel.
Surface Treatment Geomet Coating (Dacromet), Hot-Dip Galvanizing, or Electro-galvanizing. Provides high corrosion resistance and prevents seizing in the concrete.
Key Features • High tensile and shear strength
• Excellent corrosion resistance
• Prevents rotation during clip installation
• Reliable and maintenance-free
Common Standards ISO, EN, GB/T or specific railway authority standards (e.g., UIC).

Detailed Technical Parameters of Screw Spikes

Parameter Specification / Value Remarks / Standard
Common Thread Types M24, M22, M20 (Metric Thread) M24 is a very common size. The thread is typically coarse-pitched.
Common Lengths 150 mm, 180 mm, 200 mm Length is chosen based on sleeper design and required embedment depth.
Tensile Strength ≥ 500 MPa Ensures the spike can withstand the vertical pull-out forces.
Proof Load Typically 40-60 kN (for M24) The load the spike must withstand without permanent deformation.
Torque Resistance High The square or ribbed head is designed to resist turning during clip installation.
Head Types Square Head, Ribbed Head, Double-D Allows for installation using a wrench or specialized socket. Prevents rotation within the concrete.
Installation Method Epoxy Resin Grouting or Direct Drilling into pre-formed holes in the concrete sleeper.
Weight (per piece) Approx. 0.8 - 1.2 kg (for M24x180mm) Varies with diameter an
