Component Function Material & Characteristics
Switch Rails (Point Blades) The movable tapered rails that physically guide the wheels onto the desired route. Head-hardened rail steel. Machined to precise taper. Must maintain tight contact with stock rail.
Stock Rails The fixed running rails against which the switch rails close. Standard rail section (e.g., UIC60, 60 kg/m). Provides the running surface for wheels on the main route.
Frog (Crossing) The component where the inner rails cross, allowing wheel flanges to pass through. Cast High-Manganese Steel (ZGMn13-4). Extremely wear-resistant and impact-absorbing due to work-hardening property.
Guard Rails Located opposite the frog to guide the wheels and prevent derailment. Hardened steel. Ensures the wheel flange does not hit the frog point incorrectly.
