Narrow gauge track installation and construction

Understanding the basic concepts of narrow gauge and standard gauge is the prerequisite for track installation and construction. Narrow gauge railways usually refer to railways with a track gauge of less than 1435 mm, which are mostly used in special occasions such as mining areas and forest areas. They are more flexible and adaptable; while standard gauge railways refer to standard railways with a track gauge of 1435 mm, which are widely used in the country's trunk transportation network. Although the track structure, materials and construction processes of the two are different, the basic steps of installation are roughly the same.

Before the track installation and construction, the construction unit needs to make full preparations, including surveying the construction site, preparing materials, and debugging equipment. The survey of the construction site can help construction personnel understand the terrain, soil quality and other factors that may affect the construction, so as to formulate a reasonable construction plan. The preparation of construction materials must ensure quality and ensure the stability and safety of the track.

Next is the track laying process. Determine the laying position of the track according to the design drawings, and use measuring tools for accurate positioning. For narrow gauge, due to its small track gauge, special attention should be paid to the straightness and stability of the track during construction. After laying, a preliminary inspection of the track is required to ensure that there is no obvious deviation.

The fixing of the track is a key step in the installation and construction. Generally, sleepers (or other supporting materials) are used to fix the track in the predetermined position. The spacing and number of sleepers should be set according to the design requirements. During the fixing process, it is necessary to ensure good contact between the track and the sleeper, and use appropriate fixing devices such as bolts or clamps to prevent the track from shifting during subsequent use.
