What are rails?

1. What are rails?
Rail is a long iron track on the railway that bears weight. It is one of the most important components in railway transportation. Rails are composed of a series of hot-rolled steel plates. Usually, the length of the rail is 12-25 meters, the thickness is between 10-30 centimeters, and the weight is 40-60 kilograms.

2. Classification of rails

(1). Ordinary rails

Ordinary rails refer to non-high-speed rails used in railway lines. Generally, it is U71Mn rail material, and the cross-section shape is like the "工" character. The three parts of the rail head, rail waist and rail bottom have different three-dimensional shapes. They are designed to ensure that the easily bent parts withstand certain bending deformation. Ordinary rails have a wide range of uses and are suitable for all railway lines suitable for heavy rails, including urban rail transit, subway, road rail, agricultural rail, etc.

(2). High-speed rails

High-speed rails refer to rails used for high-speed railway trunk lines. Generally, it is B7 steel, and its cross-section shape is "口" shaped, which can withstand large directional pressure and balance wheel loads. High-speed rails have the characteristics of high strength, fatigue resistance, strong bending ability, long service life, and good vibration resistance. They can adapt to the high-speed railway operation of high-speed trains exceeding 300 kilometers per hour.

(3). The role of rails in railway transportation
Rail in railway transportation plays the role of supporting the weight of the train, guiding and stabilizing the direction of the train, bearing concentrated loads, and transmitting strong dynamic loads on the vehicle. The force it bears is quite huge, bearing all the weight of the train, so the rails must be strong and durable enough.

In short, rails are an indispensable part of railway transportation, and they are mainly classified into two types: ordinary rails and high-speed rails. The main function of rails is to bear the weight of the vehicle, guide the direction of the train and stabilize the driving, bear concentrated loads, and transmit strong dynamic loads on the vehicle.
