The Rail Anchor is an indispensable key component in the railway fastening system. Its primary role is to prevent longitudinal displacement of the rail caused by train operation and temperature changes, thereby maintaining the overall stability of the track structure. When trains accelerate, brake, or operate over extended periods, they impose powerful longitudinal tensile and compressive forces on the rails. Without rail anchors, the rails could gradually "creep," leading to gauge variations, abnormal stress on rail fishplate connections, and even causing bed loosening and track deformation, jeopardizing train operational safety.
In practical application, the rail anchor securely fixes the rail to both sides of the sleeper by tightly gripping the rail foot, effectively restricting longitudinal slippage. This locking function not only prevents abnormal gap widening or closing due to temperature changes but also suppresses the fore-and-aft movement of the rail caused by train starting and braking, thereby maintaining long-term stability of the gauge and track geometry.
Rail anchors vary in shapes, such as Improved Fair, Unit V or Channeled, with processing way of rolling, forging or casting. The latter two types are usually produced by casting, due to its complicated bending.
