What is the working principle of Rail Elastic Clips?
Rail elastic clip is used to fasten the rails to the underlying base plate together with the concrete sleeper. Usually rail clips are made of forged spring steel which is produced by hot forging process. Because of the uniform microstructure of forged clips, it is considered to be better than other metal forming process.

Rail elastic clips work by using the elasticity and flexibility of high-strength spring steel to apply a consistent clamping force, which secures the steel rail to the sleeper. This force keeps the rail stable, prevents movement, maintains the correct gauge distance, and absorbs the impact and vibrations from passing trains. They are designed to withstand repeated stresses like bending and torsion while providing a secure, shock-absorbing connection that minimizes wear and tear.
Key working principles
- Clamping force: The clip is manufactured by bending and twisting a spring steel strip to create a force that pushes down on the rail, ensuring a tight connection with the sleeper.
- Elasticity and shock absorption: The special elastic structure of the clip allows it to flex and absorb the high impact energy and vibrations generated when a train passes over the tracks, which helps to protect the infrastructure.

- Maintaining stability: By applying constant pressure, the clips prevent the rail from moving longitudinally, laterally, or from sliding, which is crucial for maintaining the safety of the track and ensuring the correct gauge distance.
- Durability under stress: Elastic rail clips are designed to endure constant, repeated, and alternating stresses, including bending, torsion, fatigue, and corrosion. They also must withstand high instantaneous impact loads when trains pass, so their performance requirements are very strict.
