Why are Rail Clips often used in combination with other Rail Fastenings?
Rail clips are used with other fastenings like tie plates, bolts, and anchors because a complete system is needed to securely and safely hold rails to sleepers, manage forces, and maintain track integrity. While clips provide the primary clamping force, other components distribute load, prevent movement, absorb vibration, and provide a complete and adjustable fastening solution.
For different applications and national standards, elastic rail clips can be classified into various types, including rail e- clip, SKL rail clips, Nabla rail clip, Deenik clip, crane rail clip, Russia rail clip as well as other standard rail clips.

Components and their functions
- Rail clips: These provide the main elastic clamping force that holds the rail against the tie plate, securing the rail and absorbing impact and vibration from passing trains.
- Tie plates: These metal plates sit between the rail and the sleeper, distributing the load from the rail to the sleeper and helping to maintain the correct track gauge.
- Fastening bolts/screws: These secure the clip and the tie plate to the sleeper (or concrete base plate), providing the necessary tension to make the system work.
- Rail anchors: These prevent the rail from moving longitudinally along the track.

How they work together
- The rail sits on the tie plate, which is secured to the sleeper.
- The rail clip then clamps onto the base of the rail and the tie plate, providing the necessary downward pressure.
- Bolts are used to hold the clip and the tie plate firmly in place against the sleeper, creating a complete and secure fastening system.
- Rail anchors are added to stop the entire assembly from sliding along the track.

This combination of components creates a reliable system that is strong enough to handle dynamic forces while also being flexible enough to absorb vibration, ensuring the safety and longevity of the track.
