Railroad Railway Screw Spike

Railroad Railway Screw Spike

The screw spike is also known as rail screw. As one kind of Rail spike, it is a metal screw for fixing rail fasteners. Screw spike is usually made of NO.3 steel. Because its nail rod surface has thread, so it is called screw spike. The pull-out resistance is 0.5 ~ 1.0 times larger than that of common rail spike, but the thrust resistance is 50% less. Due to disassembly and assembly inconvenience, it is difficult to adjust the rail gauge, which is generally used on the railway turnout. For meeting various needs of clients, we can offer coach screws, stud screw, railway sleeper screws and other coustom screw spike in railway.

Rail Screw Spike Fastening System

New Condition Screw Spikes

A Railway Screw Clip is a resilient fastening component that combines a spring steel tension clip with an integrated threaded anchor, secured directly to the sleeper by a screwbolt passing through its central eye or heel aperture. Unlike shoulder-mounted clips, this design allows independent removal of the clip without disturbing the screwbolt anchoring, enabling rail replacement while maintaining sleeper fixation. The clip's rail-bearing toe extends from a coiled or curved body that stores elastic energy when deflected, with clamping force adjusted by varying screwbolt torque against integrated washer faces or load-distributing plates.

Technical Specifications:

Feature Category Key Benefit Common Application
Through-Bolt Design Clip replacement without disturbing anchorage High-maintenance curves
150-250 Nm Torque Range 8-14 kN adjustable clamping force Variable axle-load corridors
5-8mm Vertical Adjustment Accommodates rail wear and settlement Transition zones
Isolation Bushings Signaling circuit compatibility Electrified networks
Washer Tension Indicators Visual preload verification without tools Remote inspection routes
Independent Replacement Staged maintenance reduces downtime High-traffic main lines
Elastic Rail Clamp

Installation & Maintenance Perspective:

  • Screwbolt shank passes through clip body with clearance fit allowing 5-8mm vertical adjustment range.
  • Load transfer occurs through washer face bearing on clip spring arms rather than direct bolt-to-clip contact.
  • Threaded insert in concrete or wood sleeper provides replaceable anchorage without sleeper replacement.
  • Central eye configuration distributes clamping force symmetrically to both clip legs.
  • Isolation bushings prevent metal-to-metal contact for electrical signaling circuit compatibility.

Maintenance & Operational Perspective

  • Applied torque of 150-250 Nm correlates to toe load of 8-14 kN through calibrated spring deflection.
  • Tension indicators on washer face show achieved preload through deformation of integrated protrusions.
  • Over-torque protection via washer skirt contacting clip body at 95% of design deflection.
  • Relaxation rate of 3-5% annually compensated by initial over-tensioning during installation.
  • Dynamic torque loss from vibration monitored through witness marks on bolt head and clip surface.
