Railroad Railway Screw Spikes

Railroad Railway Screw Spikes

The screw spike is also known as rail screw. As one kind of Rail spike, it is a metal screw for fixing rail fasteners. Screw spike is usually made of NO.3 steel. Because its nail rod surface has thread, so it is called screw spike. The pull-out resistance is 0.5 ~ 1.0 times larger than that of common rail spike, but the thrust resistance is 50% less. Due to disassembly and assembly inconvenience, it is difficult to adjust the rail gauge, which is generally used on the railway turnout. For meeting various needs of clients, we can offer coach screws, stud screw, railway sleeper screws and other coustom screw spike in railway.

Rail Screw Spike Fastening System

New Condition Screw Spikes

A Railway Screw Clip is a two-component fastening system comprising a U-shaped spring steel tension element and a separate threaded stud or screwbolt that anchors directly into the sleeper. Unlike unitary clip designs, the screw clip features a detachable interface where the clip's central loop or slotted heel engages with the stud's head, allowing independent rotation of the clip during installation. This articulation accommodates misalignment between rail foot and sleeper embedment while maintaining full clamping force.

Technical Specifications:

Feature Category Key Benefit Common Application
Hemispherical Washer ±3° misalignment compensation Uneven sleeper surfaces
Elongated Clip Slot 5mm thermal movement allowance Bridge approach zones
Grade 10.9 Studs High-strength anchorage Heavy-haul freight lines
Ribbed Anti-Rotation Shank Prevents stud spinning during maintenance Remote inspection locations
5 kΩ Isolation Signaling circuit compatibility Electrified commuter rail
5 Million Cycle Fatigue Extended service life High-frequency metro systems
Elastic Rail Clamp

Installation & Maintenance Perspective:

  • Hemispherical washer under stud head permits ±3-degree angular articulation in any direction.
  • Clip rotation independent of stud prevents binding when rail foot angle varies from sleeper surface.
  • Elongated slot in clip heel allows 5mm longitudinal adjustment for thermal movement.
  • Spherical seat maintains full contact area despite angular misalignment, preventing point loading.
  • Articulation range accommodates typical 1:20 to 1:40 rail inclination variations without binding.

Maintenance & Operational Perspective

  • Whitworth or metric coarse threads (M22-M24) provide maximum pull-out resistance in timber.
  • Ribbed shank section below head prevents rotation during clip installation and adjustment.
  • Stud length calculated for full thread engagement plus 10mm protrusion for washer and clip.
  • Drive feature (hex socket or square) enables stud removal without clip removal.
  • Stud material typically grade 8.8 or 10.9 with zinc-flake corrosion protection.
