Rail pads are inserted between the rail and the baseplate or sleeper. Introduced into rail fastening systems due to their resilience or viscoelasticity, rail pads serve to mitigate fatigue cracking in sleepers. They attenuate dynamic stresses generated by wheels or rails during both regular and irregular movements. Additionally, they contribute to reduced track maintenance and associated costs. Based on surface characteristics, rail pads can be categorized into studded rail pads and grooved railway pads.
