A rail spike is a fastening pin or screw that locks rails to sleepers, maintaining track geometry under heavy axle loads and repeated traffic. Its material and design determine the track's longevity and stability. GNEE RAIL provides all-standard rail spikes, including 3V screw spikes and Coach Screw Spikes, compatible with GB, UIC, DIN536, QU, JIS, AS1085, BS11, and AREMA/ASCE rail systems, with surface treatments and full technical installation support.

What is a coach screw?
A rail coach screw, also known as a chair screw or rail screw spike, is a heavy-duty, threaded fastener used to secure railway rails or baseplates directly to timber or concrete sleepers. Offering roughly twice the holding power of traditional rail spikes, they provide superior resistance to vibration-induced loosening in railway track infrastructure.
Key Features and Specifications:

- Design: Typically features a large diameter (often near 1 inch), a long shank (110mm to 180mm), and a square or hexagonal head for high-torque installation.
- Material: Made from high-strength carbon steel, alloy steel, or stainless steel to endure heavy dynamic loads.
- Function: Used in conjunction with baseplates or rail chairs to fasten rails, particularly on sharp curves or for switch (point) tieplates.
- Installation: Screwed into pre-drilled holes in wooden sleepers or used with plastic/nylon inserts (ferrules) in concrete sleepers.
- Advantages: Provides excellent grip, reduces track gauge widening, and allows for the use of spring washers to maintain tension.
What are spikes made out of?
Railroad spikes are made from high-strength steel, chosen for its combination of toughness, hardness, and resistance to fatigue. The material must withstand repeated vertical, lateral, and longitudinal forces from trains or cranes, as well as environmental factors like corrosion and temperature changes.
The most common steels used for spikes include Q235, 35#, 45#, and 40Cr. Q235 is a standard carbon steel suitable for light railway and mining tracks, offering good ductility and moderate strength. 35# and 45# steels provide higher tensile strength and wear resistance, making them ideal for mainline or heavy-duty tracks. 40Cr alloy steel, with chromium added, is used for crane rails and high-load industrial tracks because of its superior strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance.
