What is the hardness of a rail elastic clip?
The hardness of a rail elastic clip is one of its key performance indicators, typically controlled within the range of HRC 41-45.

This specific range represents an optimally balanced point achieved through precise calculation and long-term practical verification. It ensures the clip possesses sufficient strength and rigidity to provide stable clamping force while retaining the necessary toughness to prevent brittle fracture. If the hardness is too low (below HRC 40), the clip is prone to plastic deformation under long-term cyclic loads, leading to rapid decay of clamping force. Conversely, excessive hardness (above HRC 47) reduces material toughness, increasing the risk of fracture under impact loads.

Achieving this precise hardness value relies on strict heat treatment processes. After forming, the clips undergo quenching and tempering, where the control of the tempering temperature is decisive for the final hardness.

Taking 60Si2MnA spring steel as an example, oil quenching at 850-870°C followed by medium-temperature tempering at 460-500°C yields the ideal hardness of HRC 42-45. This heat treatment process results in a tempered troostite microstructure in the material, providing a combination of high elasticity and good toughness.

Hardness testing must follow standardized methods. Rockwell hardness testers (C scale) are typically used to measure flat surfaces on the clip's leg or central section. At least three different measurement points should be taken per sample and averaged. The elastic clips produced by GNEE RAIL not only strictly maintain hardness within the optimized range of HRC 42-44 but also ensure uniformity in the material's microstructure through metallographic analysis. This guarantees the product maintains excellent elastic performance and fatigue strength throughout its long-term service life.

GNEE RAIL offers different kinds of railway fasteners to meet client's requirements, such as Elastic Rail Clip and Clamp, Rail Screw Spike, Plastic Dowel, High Tensile Track Bolt with Nut, Rail Base(Tie) Plate, Rail Fish Plate, Railway Shoulder(Insert), Fish Bolt, Railroad Rubber and EVA Pad, etc. Samples and drawings provided by customer, we will manufacture qualified products accordingly.
