What is the use of rail pad?

Rail pads are elastic pads placed between rails and concrete sleepers to absorb shock, reduce vibrations, and distribute wheel loads, protecting track components from wear, preventing cracking, decreasing noise, and enhancing overall track stability and passenger comfort.

They act as a buffer, cushioning impacts and minimizing fatigue stress on the sleepers and fasteners, thus extending the life of the track system and lowering maintenance costs.

The use of railway pad

Adaptable to Multiple Line Types:

Meets the usage requirements of various railway lines, including high-speed railways, conventional-speed railways, heavy-haul railways, urban subways, intercity rail transit, regional express rail, and industrial/mining dedicated lines (such as mining and port railways). Optimizes compatibility solutions based on the operating speed, load intensity, and traffic density of different lines.

Compatible with Diverse Track Structures:

Adapts to different track base types such as concrete sleepers, wooden sleepers, reinforced concrete track slabs, ballastless tracks, and ballasted tracks. Simultaneously compatible with the full range of rail specifications from 43 kg/m to 75 kg/m, and perfectly matches mainstream fastening systems such as SKL, WJ, Pandrol, and Vossloh.

Capable of Withstanding Extreme Working Conditions:

Maintains stable performance in complex environments such as extreme cold (-50°C), high heat (70°C), coastal saline-alkali conditions, humid and rainy climates, desert aridity, oil contamination, and acid/alkali corrosion. Suitable for railway construction in special regions like plateaus, permafrost zones, coastal areas, and industrial plants.

Meets Specialized Functional Requirements:

  • Vibration and Noise Reduction: For urban subways, passenger-dedicated lines, and railways near residential areas, reduces wheel-rail contact noise by 3–10 decibels and minimizes vibration impact on the surrounding environment and buildings.

  • Heavy-Duty Wear Resistance: Provides high-compression, wear-resistant pads for freight heavy-haul railways, withstanding high-frequency heavy-impact loads and reducing component wear.

  • Long-Term Anti-Aging Performance: Resists UV and ozone erosion during long-term outdoor use, extending the maintenance cycle of the track system.

  • Insulation Protection: Some insulating rail pads can block stray currents, preventing electrochemical corrosion between the rail and sleeper, and are suitable for electrified railway needs.

  • Anti-Slip and Fixation: Enhances friction between the rail and pad, and between the pad and sleeper, through surface texture design, preventing relative displacement of components during train operation.

GNEE RAIL have developed a range of high-performance elastic rail pads for stiffness requirements and various application areas-from trams through standard gauge railways to heavy haul lines, especially those for E-type rail fastening systems and SKL type rail fastening systems with material of HDPE/EVA/Rubber, with following properties respectively.
