During train operation, wheels exert forces on the track, generating not only vertical and lateral forces but also longitudinal forces due to wheel rolling and longitudinal sliding. These dynamic loads cause the rails to undergo wave-like deflection, producing a longitudinal horizontal thrust. This thrust can induce longitudinal displacement of the rails and sometimes even displace the sleepers. Such movement is referred to as track creeping.
Rail creeping often leads to destructive phenomena such as irregular gauge and sleeper misalignment, endangering operational safety. Therefore, effective measures must be implemented to prevent rail creeping.
The effects of rail creeping are typically counteracted by rail anchors. Railroad anchors, also known as sleeper anchors or tie anchors, are positioned beneath the rail base and grip the rail through their curved design. Their sides fit snugly against the sleeper. Manufactured from single-piece spring steel, rail anchors secure rails through friction, elasticity, and locking mechanisms.
