Rail track, also called railroad rail, railroad track, steel rail and so on, is widely used in the railway track system. Together with the cooperation with the railroad switch, it can make trains running without turning to the other directions. In general, rail track is consist of two parallel steel tracks and lays steadily on the railway sleepers.

What grade of steel is used for rail tracks?
Rail tracks use medium-to-high carbon steels, often designated by standards like European EN 13674 (e.g., R260, R350HT) or older US grades like 1084, chosen for high wear resistance, hardness, and fracture toughness, with alloying elements like manganese (Mn) enhancing heat treatment for extreme durability under heavy loads and speeds.
Common Grades & Standards
- European Standards (EN 13674): Features grades like R200 (basic), R260 (standard mainline), and heat-treated R350HT/R350LHT for high wear areas, with the number indicating minimum hardness (Brinell).
- US/North American: Often referred to as 1084 steel (a medium-carbon grade) or by AREMA standards, focusing on high carbon (around 0.7-0.8%) and manganese content for strength.
- Advanced Rails: Head-Hardened (HH) steels (like R350HT) create a very hard surface for metro/high-speed lines, while standard rails are pearlitic, balancing strength and ductility.

Key Properties
- High Carbon & Manganese: Provides the necessary hardness (around 300-350 HB) and strength to resist crushing and wear from heavy, fast trains.
- Pearlitic Structure: A microstructure in the steel that offers a good combination of hardness, strength, and toughness.
- Heat Treatment: Essential for increasing surface hardness and wear resistance, creating a tough rail capable of withstanding millions of load cycles.

Since 2008, GNEE RAIL has been supplying steel rails of different grades for more than 18 years, steel rails from GNEE is highly recommened in China and abroad.Wtih cutting edge equipment, GNEE produces high quality steel rails that meet with requirements of most countries. Standard rail, head hardened rail, heavy rail, light rail, crane rail and other types are all available here, as one of the China main rail supplier, GNEE RAIL has been working on supplying economical green railway products all over the world.
