Crane rail plays a critical role in heavy-duty crane systems and port handling facilities, as its material determines the wear resistance, load capacity, and service life of the track. According to the Chinese standard YB/T 5055-2014 for Crane Rails, the most commonly used materials are U71Mn, U75V, and U78CrV. These are high-strength alloy steels that undergo special heat treatment to withstand high-frequency and impact loads.

- U71Mn rail is the most widely used grade, containing 0.65–0.76% carbon and 0.70–1.40% manganese, with a tensile strength of ≥880 MPa. It offers balanced toughness and fatigue resistance, making it ideal for general cranes and medium-load applications.
- U75V rail includes vanadium (0.04–0.12%), which refines the grain structure, increasing hardness and impact resistance with a tensile strength ≥980 MPa. It is often used for overhead cranes and heavy-duty port operations.
- U78CrV rail is the highest-performance option, containing chromium (0.30–0.50%) and vanadium (0.04–0.12%) with a tensile strength ≥1080 MPa. It provides superior wear resistance and deformation control, ideal for metallurgy plants, shipyards, and port crane systems.
